Despite a stormy, rainy January day in the Willamette Valley, Oregon State University GEO 300 students braved the weather to participate in a bio-blitz and invasive species pull.  The birds were hunkered down, but as we were wrapping up, the rain started to ease and the first Oregon juncos and black-capped chickadees ventured out and a red-shouldered hawk was heard flying overhead.  The team identified a Pacific tree frog and rough-skinned newt along with over a dozen different macro-invertebrates in leaf packs they gathered.

The bio-blitz will continue through Spring 2016 to record the arrival of migrating birds.
